Purpose:
This classic ceremonial cacao drink is designed to help ground and center the mind and body, making it a perfect foundation for cacao ceremonies of all kinds. With minimal ingredients, this drink allows the pure, rich flavor of ceremonial-grade cacao to shine through, bringing focus, clarity, and connection.


Ingredients:

  • 1 oz (28g) ceremonial-grade cacao (chopped or grated for easier melting)
  • 1 cup (240ml) hot water (just below boiling)
  • A small pinch of sea salt (to enhance flavor and mineral content)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional, for warmth and sweetness)
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for a gentle kick and added focus)
  • 1-2 tsp raw honey, agave, or maple syrup (optional, for a touch of sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cacao
    Begin by chopping or grating the ceremonial cacao into small pieces. This will help it melt evenly and smoothly in the water.
  2. Heat the Water
    Heat the water until it’s just below boiling (around 170-180°F or 76-82°C). Avoid boiling, as this can burn the cacao and compromise its flavor and nutritional properties.
  3. Mix the Cacao
    Place the cacao in a heat-safe bowl or cup. Pour the hot water over the cacao and let it sit for a few seconds to soften. Use a spoon, small whisk, or even a hand blender to mix until the cacao is fully melted and smooth.
  4. Add Flavor Enhancements
    For added warmth, sprinkle in the cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Stir thoroughly. Add a small pinch of sea salt, as this can enhance the flavor profile and amplify the earthy tones of the cacao.
  5. Sweeten (Optional)
    If you prefer a sweeter drink, add honey, agave, or maple syrup to taste. Stir well to ensure the sweetener is fully dissolved.
