Spiced Cacao Chai

Purpose:
The Spiced Cacao Chai is a warm, fragrant blend that combines cacao with traditional chai spices. This drink is perfect for cozy, grounding ceremonies, especially during colder months. The spices add warmth and depth, making it an ideal choice for rituals focused on introspection, gratitude, or gathering with loved ones.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz (28g) ceremonial-grade cacao, chopped or grated
  • 1 cup (240ml) hot water or almond milk
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1-2 whole cloves (or a pinch of ground clove)
  • A pinch of black pepper (optional, for added warmth)
  • 1-2 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Infuse the Spices
In a small saucepan, heat the water or almond milk over medium-low heat. Add the cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and black pepper, stirring well. Let the mixture warm for about 3-5 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse. Avoid boiling, as this can reduce the flavors’ richness.
  2. Mix the Cacao
Place the chopped cacao in a mug. Strain the spiced milk or water into the mug, pouring it over the cacao. Let the cacao sit for a moment, then stir or whisk until smooth and fully melted.
  3. Add Sweetener
If you’d like to balance the spices with sweetness, add honey or maple syrup to taste. Stir well to combine.
  4. Serve and Enjoy Mindfully
Take a moment to inhale the warming aroma of chai spices and cacao. Sip slowly, allowing the flavors to warm and ground you.

Tips for Ceremony:

  • Create a Cozy Setting
This spiced cacao chai is perfect for a winter or autumn ritual. Set up a cozy space with blankets, candles, or a soft cushion. You might consider adding a few pieces of whole spices, such as cinnamon sticks or cardamom pods, around your space to enhance the ambiance.
  • Set an Intention for Gratitude and Reflection
As you hold your cup, take a moment to reflect on what you’re grateful for. This drink is wonderful for grounding and connecting with gratitude, making it an excellent choice for personal or group gatherings.
  • Embrace the Spice with Gentle Breathing
Between sips, take slow, deep breaths. Visualize the warmth of each spice filling your body with comfort, safety, and gratitude, helping you feel grounded and present.
